Building a school one brick at a
time
Ad Astra is dedicated to the objective
of raising $150,000 to help Child Haven build a school in Kathmandu,
Nepal in memory of Sean Egan. Sean died on the slopes of Mount
Everest on Friday April 29th, 2005. He was aiming to be the oldest
Canadian to stand on the summit of Mount Everest and was using
his expedition to raise funds for Child Haven in Kathmandu.

Ad Astra has already raised over $130,000 and has developed a
unique fundraiser to help reach the summit.
Building a school takes time, money and
a lot of bricks! We are asking people and organizations to step
forward to “buy a
brick”. Each brick costs just $100 and each brick donor will
receive a unique gift and get an opportunity to give a message
of support to future students on a special commemorative plaque.
The plaque will be mounted on the wall of the school. You will
then have a very personal link with the school in Kathmandu!
The
plaque measures about 90cms x 60cms and each message will be
about the size of a business card and you can write whatever you
want.
Here’s how it works.
1. Send a check for $100, made payable
to Child Haven (Sean Egan fund), to Carol Gardner, Kanatek Technologies
Inc, 535 Legget Drive, Suite 400, Kanata, Ontario, K2K 3B8. Or
, go direct to the Child Haven web site ( www.childhaven.ca/donate )
and make an online contribution using PayPal.
2. Send an email to Carol Gardner at Kanatek
Technologies (carol.gardner@kanatek.com) with your personal message
for the students at the new school. If you’d like to include a logo please include it as an eps
attachment. Don’t forget to include your message, your name
and your postal address.
3. We will send you a wonderful glass
brick with an etching of the Ad Astra logo. It can sit on your
desk as a permanent reminder of your link with the school. The
glass brick measures about 8cms x 5cms x 2cms and makes a great
paperweight.
4. If you are buying the brick as a gift please let Carol know
if it is to be mailed to a different address than the tax receipt.
If you send us a small message we will also include that on a card
with the brick so that the recipient knows who has sent it.
5. We will arrange for Child Haven to mail you a tax receipt.
The receipt is in the value of $85, to allow for the cost of the
glass brick, postage and packing.
6. We will arrange for your message of support to be included
on the Ad Astra web site, unless you say that you prefer anonymity.
7. We will put your message of support
on the plaque that will go on the wall of the new school. Once
the school is finished we hope to get some photos of the plaque,
in place, so that you can see it in all its glory.
Bricks can be mailed within
two weeks of receiving your information so don’t delay – they
make a great gift for Christmas.
Buy a brick, or two, and help us build the school in Kathmandu.
Buy a brick for a friend or a loved one and know that your gift
is going to a great cause.
